Whoo! I am super excited to bring you this wedding series of informational posts! First up! Why do you need an engagement session with your wedding photographer?
This is one thing I feel that shouldn’t be skipped in the process of booking a wedding photographer. Engagement sessions are like an amazing pair of shoes on the shelf that you just have to have. Except! There is only one pair and you are not quite sure they are going to fit. So you take them down off the shelf and begin the process of trying them on. You suspect they will fit and you’re going to love them. Finally you get them on and they FIT! Not only do they fit, but they are gorgeous and comfortable. Double score! Your engagement session is similar. You have done the research, selected your photographer and booked them for your day. Having an engagement session gives you a chance to:
Get comfortable and confident being in front of the camera. It is a very nerve racking thing being on that side of the camera. I know, I have been there. Often! However, you don’t need to be a professional model to look amazing in your photos. I have done my homework, invested in my photographic education and make beautiful images that you are going to love. I give plenty of instruction on how to prepare and what to do during our session. By the end of our session you will be a PRO! Annnnnnd you both get to see me embarrass myself on purpose. That’s always entertaining!
Get to know your photographer! Weddings are already busy enough and then all the sudden this stranger walks in and wants to know where the bride/groom is located. It’s hard being 100% comfortable and confident in front of the camera with someone you have never met before. Having a chance to work with me prior will make it much easier when it comes to the actual wedding day. I will have already met you and have an idea of what you like and don’t like through your engagement session. I will know if you have a complex surrounding parts of your body image. That you hate your hair being parted a certain way. I will know if you have a preferred side you like to be photographed on. From getting to know a few random facts about you both personally… All the way down to your best pose. (Everyone has that one pose they just rock!) We will have been there.
Be more creative! Think of it this way…on your wedding day we are on a very tight timeline. As the minutes tick by we only have a limited about of time to photograph with portraits. I have seen some weddings where the couple barely got two shots in before having to rush off to their reception. There simply is not enough time to do it all. Adding on your engagement session will give you more time to be creative with your portraits. You get an additional opportunity to create some of your very first memories with one another.
The biggest thing is an engagement session allows you both to just be yourselves. There is no rush to get done or wedding day stress. You will be forever grateful for the extra time spent with your loved one.
